Maxie's
is proud to introduce our Finger Lakes wine list which highlights
some exeptional boutique wines that are available close to home.
We are very careful in selecting these representatives, in order
to honor the grape varieties that best suit our soils and that
can withstand our unpredictable, moderate to cold climate. The
wineries that we have chosen are honest in their winemaking
practices and try to produce high quality wine, with as little
intervention as possible. This practice brings out the best
in the grape, based upon the weather of the particular vintage.
This is no simple feat as each year offers challenges of its
own.
Early agricultural movements in New York State which offered
grants to plant vines, apples and cherries started many of our
local vineyards. Dr. Konstantin Frank was a pioneer in urging
New York state winemakers, back in the 1950's, to plant vinifera
vines. Veteran and new winemakers in our area believe that the
Finger Lakes region can grow grapes to produce wines to rival
the best. It is an evolutionary process and each year the wines
are improving, so it is important to stay tuned. We at Maxie's
feel it is our duty to keep a finger on the pulse of winemaking
progress in the Finger Lakes and to try to showcase it's successes.
Thus having done hours of tasting and touring of local producers,
we enthusiastically bring you this ever-changing selection.
We will rotate wines available by-the-glass each day, so that
you can expose yourself to a wide range of fresh local wine.
Try to get out and visit some of these wineries too. They are
talented, hospitable people and will love having you.
Salute!
P.S. This list changes constantly, so please come in for the
most up-to-date Finger Lakes wine choices! |
