NEWS
OF MAXIE"S CONTINUING COMMITMENT TO THE ENVIRONMENT:
Maxie's is proud to announce our involvement
in an exciting new method of environmental conservation: Filtered
fryer oil as a gas alternative. Headed by the fine folks at
Liquid Solar, this process involves using finely filtered, used
fryer oil to power diesel engines as a fuel alternative. The
Liquid Solar crew comes to pick up our used fryer oil from large
plastic barrels (Maxie's changes our fryer oil everyday, so
there is a steady supply!) and filters it into a holding tank,
which can then either be directly pumped into the vehicle, or
saved to pump into a different one. This process is still in
its early stages of development and Maxie's is very pleased
to be involved in such a worthy contribution to conserving our
Earth's precious and limited fuel resources.
To find out more about Liquid Solar (and we strongly suggest
you do!) check out their website at www.liquidsolar.org.
We are also happy to report the renewal of our composting program.
Currently, two private farms come to the restaurant 5 times
a week to pick up our pre-consimer compostable material, and
also all of our oyster shells. These materials can then be converted
by the farmers into excellent, nutrient-and-mineral rich fertilizer
that will help their crop to grow into wonderful organic produce
that you may find on your plate at Maxie's the following season!
